2025 Recap

Dearest Gentle Reader, Season’s greetings 🀍 If I’m being honest, I didn’t keep all the promises I made to myself and to you guys in January 2025πŸ₯Ί. And for a long time, that bothered me a whole lot. But looking back now, I understand why. Last year needed me to pause, to learn, to unlearn, and to grow, and I’m grateful for every part of it. One of the biggest lessons came from choosing a career path. As a Microbiology graduate who genuinely enjoyed every aspect of the course (weirdly so), deciding what direction to take wasn’t easy. I felt pulled in many directions, unsure of where I truly belonged. Eventually, I ran back to God for clarity and slowly, things began to align. That clarity led me to academic writing. It was something I had always been interested in but never quite knew how to begin. When I finally took the leap, it was challenging, exciting, and deeply fulfilling. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who referred me, trusted my work, and supported my journey. Thank you f...

Hustle Culture is Overrated!!!!

“Rise and grind.” “Sleep is for the weak”( this is my dad’s mantra always). “If you’re not working 24/7, you’re not doing enough” Yenyenyen.  These are the phrases that hustle culture feeds us. It’s a lifestyle celebrated on social media, in motivational quotes (all the aspire to perspire), and by influencers who appear to be constantly chasing their next big win. But for all the hype hustle culture gets and all the hype that surrounds it, it’s often a recipe for exhaustion, burnout, and feelings of inadequacy.

The reality is this: hustle culture is overratedddd—and here's why.

At first glance, hustle culture looks appealing. It promises success, recognition, and financial freedom to anyone willing to sacrifice everything for their goals( which of course who doesn’t want the success and financial freedom). The idea is simple: the more you work, the more you achieve. If you’re working 24/7, you’re on the fast track to greatness.

But while this sounds motivating, it’s also misleadingggg!!. Hustle culture pushes the notion that your value is tied to your productivity, and that non-stop work is the only way to get ahead.

The Consequences of Constant Hustling

1. Burnout is Real

Hustle culture doesn’t tell you that the constant grind often leads to exhaustion —mental, emotional, and physical (of course the aspire to maguire people wouldn’t say that). When your body and mind don’t get proper rest, they begin to break down. The long hours and relentless pace create stress, anxiety, and the eventual burnout that forces you to stop, sometimes for weeks or months.

2. Quality of Life Suffers

When you’re caught in the cycle of hustling, everything else in your life can take a backseat. Relationships with family and friends may become strained because there’s no time left for them. Hobbies, passions, and self-care are often neglected. The result? You’re left with a life that’s dominated by work and premium stress.

3. A Lack of Fulfillment

In the pursuit of success, you might hit milestones—financial success, career advancement, or recognition—but you may not feel fulfilled. Hustle culture doesn’t encourage you to slow down and reflect on your progress. It’s all about moving forward, even if it means sacrificing the moments that bring true joy, peace and happiness like time with loved ones or a quiet evening to yourself.

4. Creativity Takes a Hit

Constantly being in “work mode” leaves little to no space for the creativity and reflection that make you better at what you do. Creativity needs rest, quiet, and moments of stillness to thrive. When you’re always on the go, you miss the chance to innovate or even enjoy the process of your work.

In contrast to what hustle culture suggests, rest is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. Your mind and body need time to recover, to recharge, and to be ready for the next challenge. Taking breaks, getting enough sleep, and finding time for relaxation are NOT  signs of weakness; they’re ways to ensure you stay healthy, productive, and happy in the long run.

When we embrace rest, we break free from the pressure to be constantly achieving. We allow ourselves to breathe and to appreciate the beauty in small moments—whether it’s enjoying a meal with a friend, reading a book, or just taking a walk outside.

It’s time to rethink what success really looks like. Hustle culture paints success as something that can only be achieved through non-stop work, but that’s not the case. Success means something different to everyone, and it does not necessarily have to be defined by how much you work or how much you’ve sacrificed.

Success is about balance. It’s about building a life that works for you, where you can not just survive but thrive in both your career and your personal life. It’s about achieving your goals without burning out or sacrificing your health.

Here’s How to Break Free from Hustle Culture

1. Set Boundaries

Create clear boundaries between work and personal life. Don’t let your job take over every aspect of your life, don’t let it take your joy. Learn to say no to things that don’t align with your priorities for yourself and for your rental health.

2. Work Smarter, Not Harder

Efficiency is often more valuable than endless hours of work. Focus on getting the right things done, not just keeping busy.

3. Prioritize Rest

Don’t feel guilty for taking breaks or taking a day off. Rest is crucial and super important for your well-being and productivity.

4. Celebrate Small Wins

You don’t need to wait until you’ve achieved “big success” to celebrate. Small victories are worth acknowledging and celebrating , because they keep you motivated without overwhelming you.

5. Focus on Your Own Journey

It’s easy to compare yourself to other people, especially when everyone seems to be hustling harder than you. But your journey is unique , everybody’s journey is unique and different, and there’s no need to keep up with anyone but yourself.

Hustle culture might tell you that you need to work harder, faster, and longer, but the truth is that you deserve way more than that. You deserve a life where work doesn’t consume you, where rest isn’t a reward but a right, and where success is about balance, not burnout and life were you feel so fulfilled and can wear a genuine bright smile.

So the next time you’re tempted to push yourself to the limit, remember that it’s okay to take a step back. Life is about more than just working—it’s about living.

Blogversary: 12 Months of Writing, Growing, and Connecting

On  12th August 2024 , I hit the publish button for the very first time. I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to do with this platform πŸ€” All I knew was that I had thoughts in my head and maybe this was the place to finally let them out. I thought it would just be me ranting into the void. But it turned into so much more. It became a community of people who  get me , who understand where I’m coming from, who read my words and say,  “exactlyyyyy, I feel this too.”  πŸ’› From “Just Rants” to Reaching Lives 🌍 In the past year, my posts have made people cry, laugh, and whisper to themselves,  “Oh, I needed to hear this today.” That’s when I realized I wasn’t just ranting as I thought. I was filling voids. I was reaching lives. 24 blog posts later, this little corner of the internet has reached readers across several nations of the world 🌎 Something I honestly never imagined when I started. This blog has been my safe space, my creative outlet, and the one place where I g...
